Hello, I am Shea Kraemer. I love driving my supervisors crazy while developing electrochemical sensors for use in bentonite clay. My project aims to determine how bentonite clay might change the composition of groundwater as it passes through bentonite as a medium. This work is to help ensure adequate predictions can be made to model the conditions of the Deep Geological Repository, to understand the longevity of nuclear waste containers better.
When I am not working on the sensors, and my supervisor is distracted enough not to notice my free time, a plethora of hobbies keeps me occupied outside the lab. From Judging at and competing in Magic the Gathering tournaments to brewing homemade cider, there is always something I try to use to distract me from my studies. Recent endeavours also include planning an aquaponics farm and settling for a balcony garden.
