Hello! My name is November, but I usually go by Nova. I’m in my 4th year in an Honours Specialization in Chemistry, and I’m currently working on my undergraduate thesis project. During this past summer, I worked in Prof. Jamie Noel’s group researching atmospheric corrosion of a copper surface through QCM measurement under the tutelage of Arthur. Currently, I am completing my thesis in a joint project with Jamie and Prof. Lyudmila Goncharova. My research under this project involves exploring the attenuation of proton spray and alpha radiation through boron and gadolinium-infused fabrics. Joint research is also being done to record the attenuation of neutron and gamma radiation. The intended application of this research is to protect astronauts from galactic cosmic radiation while maintaining a flexible and wearable material not to inhibit everyday activity. Outside of research, I am currently participating in intramural flag football at Western, and I am an avid fan of Magic: the Gathering.
