Shano Jafaar

Shano Jafaar is a student in the Bachelor of Medical Sciences program at Western University, currently assisting graduate researcher Jessie McDonald in Dr. Noël’s lab. Her role involves supporting experiments on copper corrosion in bentonite clay—a topic with critical implications for nuclear waste storage and environmental safety. Shano assists with metal preparation, sample polishing, and data collection across various experimental conditions and time points.

This opportunity allows her to apply her strong background in chemistry and biology to a real-world challenge with lasting impact. Contributing to research that informs safer long-term nuclear waste management strategies has been deeply motivating, and Shano is excited to be part of a team advancing such essential scientific understanding.

Outside the lab, Shano loves to unwind with a good book, sketch in her notebook, or lift heavy(ish) weights at the gym. She’s been told her barbell form is almost as polished as the copper samples she works on.
