The development of models to predict the release rate of radionuclides from used nuclear fuel under waste disposal conditions requires a detailed understanding of the mechanism of fuel (UO2) dissolution. We are investigating the electrochemistry/chemistry of this process using a range of electrochemical methods and surface analytical techniques (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, photoelectrochemistry). A primary goal is the determination of model parameter values.
