It is with great regret that we announce the death of our recent graduate student and friend, Jon Goldik. After successfully overcoming a bout with cancer, Jon succumbed to an uncontrollable infection and died at the end of April.

He completed his Ph.D. studies in 2006 ("The Electrochemistry of SIMFUEL in Dilute Alkaline Hydrogen Peroxide"). He then joined Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (Chalk River, Ontario) but never really had the opportunity to start his career.

Jon, while generally quiet and reserved, was an outstanding person and student, always eager to participate in group and departmental activities, and the possessor of a subtle wit and sense of humour. We extend our sincerest condolences to his parents and family. Jon's research was at the core of our research endeavours and has spawned a new generation of studies in the area. He was a friend to us all and will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
