The basic corrosion behaviour of various coating preparations and welding procedures is being determined. The primary goal is to determine how the properties of the coatings (surface morphology, porosity, strain distribution, adhesion) change with the conditions used in their preparation and welding. A key element of this project is the study of galvanic coupling between the coating and the steel established at a fault location in the coating. This last process is being followed using electrochemical techniques and X-ray tomography.
